To me, one of the most important factors in dabbling in beauty and fashion that will make any outfit or makeup look really shine is confidence. I know it’s been said over and over again but it’s true! Confidence–simply walking tall and having the right mindset–can take an outfit or hairstyle from barely noteworthy to ridiculously chic. Building up your confidence may seem a bit intimidating at first. But once you make the commitment to see yourself in a more positive light, every other aspect of your life will improve. I guarantee it.
One of my tricks for confidence is picking out women whose traits I admire. Perhaps I admire them for their fashion sense, great hairstyles or amazing personalities. Then I take these qualities and combine them into a persona I like to call my “cool chick,” who is just a woman inspiring me to be better in my own life in a positive, constructive way.
Think of the women you admire in your own life and why you look up to them. These women could include your favorite singer or actress, a friend or maybe even your mother or grandmother. The possibilities are endless and there is a different cool chick for everyone. But on days where you’re not feeling 100 percent, ask yourself what your cool chick would do and channel her as best you can.
Here is a short list of women I consider to be some pretty cool chicks:
Beyonce
So, she just gave birth to the most famous baby ever (I refuse to believe the rumors that she was a diva and rude to people at the hospital) and she’s just a wildly successful woman who oozes confidence. I feel as if in every song, music video and performance she gives her all, and that inspires me to do the same in all areas of my own life. She always gives 110 percent and has a perfect, glowing smile and complexion while doing so; that’s just one of many reasons why I think Beyonce is a cool chick.
Kristen Wiig
After seeing her performance in Bridesmaids, I had to dub Kristen Wiig a cool chick. She’s not afraid to be genuinely funny and let herself completely loose. In her performance, she is honest with herself and everyone around her. This admittedly gets her into trouble sometimes, but in the end she rights all her wrongs and is able to acknowledge when to stand her ground and when to apologize.
Carolina Girls
The women here at Carolina never cease to amaze me every day. Although this applies to the entire student body population as a whole, some girls in particular just really have it going on. You know the girls I’m talking about. They just seem to always have it all together. Even with a full plate of juggling classes and involvement in student organizations, they still manage to be kind to others, look absolutely fabulous and hold their head high amongst a sea of thousands of other awesome girls at this awesome school. I think that we are so lucky to be able to go to a university with so much cool chick inspiration available to us every day.
